Another semester, another dance, and, yes, another article about it

You know the drill: Student Government holds a dance. Then we write about it. This kind of reporting doesn't offer much in the way of originality, so let's just get this over with.

On April 16, from 4-8 PM, our Student Government hosted a dance. About 40 students and guests attended. Most wore fancy clothes. They danced. They sang karaoke (details below). They ate an assortment of fine foods and snacks. They drank an array of drinks, including – in this reporter's opinion – some really bizarrely flavored seltzer. Some students even stayed afterwards to help clean up.

Just two things to add, if only to set this article apart from every other article we've ever written about student dances.

First, somewhat before the dance, Student Government got an anonymous complaint that the dances benefit mostly Middle College students and other minors. The attendance figures tell a different story. Of the roughly 40 attendees, only eight were minors.

Second, this year we managed to snag the karaoke request list. Here's what people requested to sing (there was time for most but not all):

  • Joe Diffie - Third Rock from the Sun
  • The Script - Break Even
  • Aqua - Barbie Girl
  • B-52s - Rock Lobster
  • Frank Sinatra - My Way
  • Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know
  • Noah Kahan - Growing Sideways
  • Ryan Gosling - I'm Just Ken
  • Dominic Fike - Babydoll
  • Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Frozen Soundtrack - Love is an Open Door
  • Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
  • Frozen Soundtrack - Let It go
  • Stan Jones - Ghost Riders in the Sky
  • Queen - Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy
  • Post Malone - Chip and Dale theme

If you're interested in future dances, either as an attendee or as an organizer, get in touch with your Student Government! Or if, like the anonymous complainant already mentioned, you think dances are a waste of money, then get in touch with Student Government Council to plan other events!
